Match report The inaugural Purley on Thames challenge match between the President XI (selected by Cecil Fright, Chairman of Berkshire Cricket) and a Chairman XI (selected by Jeffrey Hinds) was played at the Goosecroft in front of a sizeable crowd. Wilson Carlisle, skipper for the President won the toss and elected to field. Danny Akhtar opened the bowling and sent down some devilish deliveries that left both James Measham and George Wheeler swishing at air. James was finally out caught by Wilson at mid-on as he attempted to pull Danny. George was unluckily run out at the non-strikers end for 14 as Mark Alum got a touch to a straight drive by Chris Rackley. Purley skipper, Patrick Allen scored 13 before he was caught and a mini collapse ensued that saw the Chairmans XI slip from 120 for 3 to 144 for 9, then Nufail came in and clouted a few to the boundary to make a brisk 23 and he was finally out with the score on 172. Will Alum and Dan Lewis put on 115 for the first wicket then George Wheeler struck, Will was finally run out after a mix up for 71 and although they lost two wickets in two balls both LBW to Patrick Allen the Presidents XI won by five wickets with more than 4 overs to spare. It was a really good afternoon and the crowd were even treated to a fly past and some aerobatics by the vice-chairman, Gary Brooker.
