Match report The 3rds suffered their first defeat of the season against a Stratfield side that had also won their first two games. The skipper was away for this game, so the side were led by Kevin, who lost the toss. Stratfield opted to bat first, and amassed a total of 230-5 from 45 overs, with Dyson 107no. The bowling was better than the score suggests, but 9 dropped catches tells the story of where it went wrong! Kev decided to open with Gavin (28) and Rob Holman. Rob, normally known for his bowling, started very well and easily achieved his highest score for Purley with 24, before being caught on the boundary. 41-1 quickly became 70-6, and a middle-order collapse ensured we would be struggling to reach their target. However, some fine blows were struck by Faz (21), Nufail (18), Pat (13), and Kirwin (16no) before Pat was given out LBW whilst we were on 160. A disappointing defeat by 70 runs. We need to vastly improve our fielding and ensure we apply oursleves to bat for 45 overs (it is not a 20/20 game!). If we do that then we could have a successful season.
