Purley on Thames CC Won by 149 runs
Match report
A brilliant win in a rain-affected game against one our nearest rivals. The skipper lost the toss and it was no surprise we were put in to bat on a wet wicket. The game started 40 mins late but Kevin (46) and Pete (13) had put on 68 from 10 overs before rain stopped play. We took an early tea and resumed the game at 4.10 and it was now a 35 over game. Kevin continued to bat superbly and eventually fell for 91 trying to hit a 6 over long-on. Contributions from the skipper (21), Pahi (16), James D (10) and Rob Clarke (30) helped us to a very good total of 235 all out off the last ball of the 35th over. We knew we had to bowl well and take our catches and most of all get their dangerman Muragan. He started very well, hitting four 6's. However, Harry (4-15) bowled superbly and got his prized wicket. Muragan tried to hit him for 6 over long-on and Rob Clarke got underneath it and took a great catch. We now sensed a win, and Nufail (1-14) got his wicket from a fantastic diving one-handed catch by James Denton. Rob Holman came back on after two early expensive overs and Kevin joined his son in the "great catch" brigade with a superb high one-handed catch at 1st slip. Rob then took two more wickets to finish with 3-42. Jack Mundell (1-15) got the 9th and final wicket (they lost a player to injury) in the 24th over, and we had bowled them out for 86 to win by 149 runs and claim a maximum 35 points. Good batting, good bowling and superb catching gave us a fantastic win to keep us in the promotion hunt. Well done team, keep it going!
