Match report
A superb game of cricket on a hot day (for once) with the boys completing another win, although a bit close for comfort for the skipper's liking. The skipper won the toss and chose to bat. However the first 3 batsman were all out caught behind, as the ball was moving around a little. It took a patient 14 from Steve Purser and an excellent 66 from Robert Clarke to get us to 150. Kirwin (19) at 8 and Nufail (14) at 9 pushed the score up to 169 before Nufail was last man out stumped trying to keep the strike. The skipper was disappointed to miss out on the full batting points and we only used up 35 overs. A total of 169 is challenging but they had 55 overs to get it, so we needed to bowl them out. Harry got 2 wickets in his first spell and they were 23-2. A good 3rd wicket partnership of 51 threatened us until Pete took a lovely 1st slip catch off Pahi. This started a mini collapse as Pahi took 5 wickets in a spell, with 3 wickets from one over, reducing them to 83-8. We thought we would win comfortably but a ninth wicket partnership was dogged as they defended well and picked up steady runs. The skipper chopped and changed his bowlers to try and break them up. They added 59 off 23 overs and took the score to 142 in the 51st over when Pahi tempted a shot into the air that Steve Purser took easily at cover. The number 11 came in and blocked well, and it looked like a draw was favourite. Harry bowled the last over and the skipper caught the number 11 behind the stumps off the second ball. We had won with 4 balls left, and took 34 points. Nufail (1-16 off 11 overs), Harry (3-34 off 11.2 overs) and Pahi (6-35 off 14 overs) were superb, and the whole team put in a great effort to win the game.
