Match was Abandoned Rain Losing Draw
Match report
The rain ruined what could have been a very exciting finish. Instead our promotion and title hopes were put back a week as we only achieved a losing draw from the game. The skipper won the toss and put them in. The important wicket of Murugan had to be taken early, but unfortunately he was dropped twice before he had really got started. Khan bowled well and we got the other opener early before taking the next 2 wickets on 49. We then had them 111-6 before Ramesh came in and hit a breezy 36. Murugan was dropped twice more on his way to 67 before Nufail showed the rest how to catch off the bowling of Mazhar. Nufail took 3 catches including one off his own bowling but Robert Clarke had a day in the field he wants to forget. Khan (4-52) was the pick of our bowlers and took the final wicket in the 45th over and they had reached 200. There were a few rain breaks and it was gloomy and overcast at the start of our innings. We started poorly and were 21-3, before Pahi and Kirwin settled down and although the runs were hard to come by, we were watchful and sensible. After another rain break, we lost Kirwin, James Denton and Nufail, and were 113-7 with 11 overs remaining. The light was fading fast but Pahi (78no) and James Mugford (14no) played excellently, and were attacking the bowling. They put on 54 in 7 overs, and we needed 34 off the final 5 overs before the rain came down too heavy and it was too dark to continue. A disappointing finish as the game could have gone either way if those 5 overs had been completed. Two games now left for the boys to get the points they deserve for playing brilliantly all season.
