Match report In a thrilling and nail-biting game, we just came out as winners in this County Cup match by losing fewer wickets. Max won the toss and chose to bat on a slow pitch. After losing James Denton early, Max (36) and James Mugford (4) put on 45 before James and Max fell in the space of a few balls. Good batting from Mark (15), Adam (8), and Jameel (11) took our score to 85-7 off 20 overs. In reply, Max and Adam bowled tightly and we had them 8-2, the second wicket a superb direct hit run-out from James M. We took wickets at regular times and they were always just about level with the run rate, so had the makings of a tight game. A good 4th wicket partnership between W Chapman and McLellan of 47 gave them a great chance, but our boys kept positive in the field and bowled well. Jameel came on for his first bowl for Purley and was superb, finishing with 4-13 from his 4 overs. He bowled the last over and they needed 5 from it. They hit 4 off the first 5 balls to tie our score, so needed one from the last ball. They could only block Jameel's delivery and as they tried to get the single Jameel completed a run-out. They finished on 85-9, and we had won the game by losing two fewer wickets than them. An absolutely superb effort from all 11 players, and they should be proud of themselves for winning against a team full of county and district players. We look forward to a quarter final away to West Ilsley.
