Match report Purley on Thames CC u17s hosted Binfield CC u17s in a Quarter final match at the Goosecroft on a warm summer's evening last Thursday 8th August. Binfield won the toss and chose to bat. Purley managed to restrict Binfield to a modest 115 for 7 off 20 overs, wickets taken 3 by Max Baker-Smith, 2 by George Clarke, and one apiece for Thomas Axson and Tom Russell; 3 catches were taken in the innings by Purley fielders wicket keeper Mark Russell, captain Robbie Jeffery, and James Denton took a spectacular one-handed catch to claim the 1st Binfield wicket. Purley u17s made light work of the total. The early loss of Tom Russell for 3 brought captain Robbie Jeffery to the crease. In no time Robbie raced to 80 not out, including a maximum and stunning 6 sixes in one over, 2 of which cleared the roof of the pavilion, to the great delight of Purley supporters. George Clarke (13), and later twin brother Robert (18 n.o) batted alongside Robbie to knock off the runs in a mere 12 overs. Purley u17s team showed good team spirit throughout and now look forward to a semi-final match later this month, with their regular manager back in charge.
