Match report
Purley travelled to Newbury for the opening Thames valley league game of the season. The forecast was for a day of rain but things were clear and bright for the start of the game.
The Potters won the toss and elected to bowl first. A good disciplined bowling performance saw the Newbury openers removed relatively early on. The predicted showers then arrived, in all there were 7 stoppages. In the end the Newbury innings ended after the 7th stoppage with their score being 155 for 5 from 39.1 overs. Robbie Jeffery was pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets.
When the rain relented, the Potters started their chase at 6pm with a target of 155 in 36 overs. Some good bowling on a now soft and slightly damp wicket saw Purley struggle to score freely. Good batting from the skipper Patrick Allen (29), Robbie (29 not out) and Reebs (54) saw the Potters get to 131 for 5 from their 36 overs.
In the end an evenly contested game ending in a draw
