Maidenhead & Bray 2nds v Purley on Thames CC Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Purley on Thames CC Won By 5 Wickets
Match report
Purley travelled to the picturesque village of Bray for a match against fellow strugglers M&B 2s. The track looked a little green but the M&B skipper elected to bat. They got off to a flyer with Cheema hitting a few boundaries but when he was well caught by Barry Carter at mid-wicket off the bowling of Oli Chatwin for 19 the brakes were put on. M&B pushed on slowly and surely but lost two wickets with the score on 63 as Raj Senniappan trapped Junaid for 11 and then 'keeper Dan Barclay brilliantly caught Lawrence for 23. The introduction of Cyril Cox broke a 60 run partnership and he went on to claim three wickets as did Zameer Khan. A great bowling and fielding performance restricted them to 166 all out off 49.1 overs and only the second time a side batting first there had scored less than 200. Purley got off to a disastrous start in the run chase as they lost skipper, James Measham LBW for 2 and then fellow opener Peter Rackley for 4. Max Baker-Smith batted well until he skied one on 17 and when debutant Alex Veale was bowled Purley had slumped to 28 for 4. After a few scares Raj Senniappan and Steve Purser put on 112 for the fifth wicket before Steve was bowled for 29 by Armstrong with the score on 140. Raj and Dan Barclay saw us home to a five wicket victory with Raj hitting his fifth six to win the match to end on 87 not out and Purley with a well deserved 20 points.
