The Purley stand-in captain - Kirwin Roach, won the toss and elected to bat on a flat looking pitch. The conditions were sunny, but blustery. We got off to a solid start with father and son combination, Kevin and James Denton batting freely. When James was out, the big hitting Khan Azad came to the crease and scored a quick fire 30, which included one massive six. After Khan was out, Arshad came in and along with Kevin Denton, promptly took control of the game. After Kevin was out for a solid 35, Pahi came in and made a brief but positive 16. After the 30th over, the big hitting combination of Nufail and Rifas came together and put on a quick 60+ run partnership, until Rifas was out in the 40th over, allowing a declaration of a challenging 231. After another lovely tea, Woodley started their run chase. They started solidly enough with openers Mubaghar and Charley putting on a good 30 odd runs. However, when both were out, the runs dried up and the Purley bowlers took a firm hold of the game. The Woodley batsmen had no answer to the pace and accuracy of Arshad, who ended with figures of 7 for 29, ably assisted by Khan Azad who chip in with 3 for 43. Woodley were eventually bowled out for 103. A special bowling performance by Arshad, not to mention the 42 runs scored earlier. A great all round team performance and a fine personal display.
