Match report Purley Sunday Friendly XI finally got their 2014 campaign off. Paul Reber captained the side in the absence of the injured skipper and lost the toss and Purley were inserted on a spongy wicket. George Clarke and Pahi opened and George hit a few lusty blows for six prior to being caught for 23. Pahi quickly followed for 8 and we were 34/2. Robert Clarke meant business from his first ball and moved to 13 before he was well caught at short cover. The third Clarke brother, Andrew batted sensibly until he skied one for 12 and we had slumped to 72/4. James Denton was unlucky to be bowled off his foot for 18 after he had threatened to build a big score and when debutants Luke Wilkinson and young Alex Duggan were out for 1 and 2 we had suffered a collapse to leave us on 89/8 but some resolute batting from Paul Reber and Vikram Kamath so us to tea on 149/8 with Paul bringing up his 50 on the last ball of the innings. After a good tea, we took to the field and it was Alex who struck first as he removed Tim Castle with a peach of a delivery for 3. Luke Wilkinson returned figures of 3/19 with the help of two terrific catches by James Denton to rip out the middle order and it was left to Pahi and George Clarke to wrap up the match as they took two wickets each to leave BBC Caversham 86 all out and 63 runs short.
