Stonor v Purley on Thames CC Sunday XI on Sun 08 Jun 2014 at 1400
Purley on Thames CC Lost by six wickets
Match report
Purley travelled to the picturesque ground of Stonor for the first time on Sunday and having lost the toss were put into bat. This decision looked to have back-fired as early as the third ball when Andrew Clarke smashed one back over the bowlers head for a 6. Andrew and Ashley Hillier batted well and took the total to 93 before Andrew was caught at mid-wicket for 56, three quick wickets fell and before we knew it we were 106 for 4. U15 Sam Poulter made his debut and looked at home as he made his way to a confident 11 not out and coupled with a dogged 14 from Kirwin Roach took the score to 158 for 7 from 43 overs. After a fantastic tea, the Potters took to the field, Robert Clarke opened the bowling and soon had the openers in trouble but nothing would go to hand and it wasn't until the sixteenth over that we finally got a breakthrough when Barry Carter bowled Ollie Kavanagh for 14. Ashley Hillier got a deserved wicket when he bowled Mayo for 27 and when Stonor skipper, Mark Lovatt holed out to John Clarke at mid-off off the bowling of Luke Wilkinson things were looking bright for us but the two Harris's steadied the ship until Sam Poulter was brought into the attack and removed Simon for 18. The scores were tied going into the last over and after three dot balls, the fourth saw Guy Bradshaw edge to slip for Sam to snaffle what would have been a fantastic one handed catch only to see the ball pop out when he landed. As the field closed in even more to pressure the batsman Guy Bradshaw cooly smashed the ball to the long on boundary to give Stonor a tense and exciting six wcket victory
