Match report
Purley On Thames 1st XI batted first again this week after winning the toss against Wokingham 2nd X1. The opening pair Priestley and Walcott got Purley off to a good start before both falling in quick succession. Reber and Allen then started to build a good partnership and things were looking good for the potters at 103 for 2. Reber and Allen then also fell in quick succession after Allen had played well for 35. This sparked a sensational collapse as the potters middle order crumbled to 129-8. George Clarke and Andrew Clarke were left with the difficult task of attempting to get the potters up to a respectable total. The brothers defended the ball well and started to accumulate valuable runs and then both found excellent rhythm at the crease to score freely in the last few overs and get the potters to a total of 205-8, Andrew Clarke 39 not out and George Clarke 32 not out. This was a wonderful partnership and swung the game in our favour.
Wokingham started the second innings with intent as they went after the runs. It was an intriguing innings as we picked up fairly regular wickets and they maintained a good run rate meaning that all three results were possible up until the last few overs. Wokingham ended on 180-8. The potters attack bowled well with Allen and Jeffrey picking up two wickets each and Maycock was the pick of the bowlers with 4-59. An entertaining game and good performance from the boys.
