Match report Purley 1st X1 hosted Aldershot 1st X1 at the goosecroft on Saturday. Aldershot won the toss and elected to bat first on a damp and cloudy day. The match could not have started better for the potters as Jeffrey picked up a wicket with the first ball of the day. The potters bowlers put excellent pressure on Aldershot and took regular wickets. Caleb Maycock produced a magic spell of bowling taking 6-55 from his 15 overs. Maycock was well backed up by spinner Patrick Allen who claimed 3-38 at the other end. The potters knocked over Aldershot for 139 in the 39th over.

In reply the potters made a decent start with all the top order making a contribution without anyone going on to a big score. George Wheeler was the key to the innings with a stylish and confident 36. When Wheeler fell to an excellent catch in the slips the potters only needed 12 to win with 4 wickets remaining. However this game was not over yet and Purley lost 2 more wickets without adding a run to the board. The potters crept towards the winning line as the tension grew until the rain came down and the players left the field for 10 minutes. When play resumed Aldershot hit straight back with a wicket leaving the potters last pair needing 4 to win. Caleb Maycok proved it was indeed his day as he dispatched the winning runs to the mid wicket boundary. A great 1st win for the boys but the tension really was unbearable towards the end. 'Go on lads!'
