Purley on Thames CC Won by 2 wickets
Match report
What a great match today. A home game at Goring CC on a really good wicket produced a thrilling game. The skipper won the toss and elected to bowl. Against a young and promising Emmbrook side we bowled and fielded well for the first 35 overs and then were sloppy in the last 10 overs. We got a run out off the last ball of the 45 overs to bowl them all out for 187. This was about 40 runs more than our first 35 overs promised. The skipper opened and watched as he lost his first 3 partners with only 59 on the board. James M (14) came in to add 33 before he was out, which brought in Rob Palmer at 92-5. The skipper and Rob then paced their innings well before Rob was out for 17 with the score on 169. A great partnership of 77 had put us in the driving seat. However, without the score moving the skipper was bowled for 89, to leave us 19 runs short and 7 wickets down. Youngsters Adam Khan and Sam Poulter could only score 1 off the next 4 overs before Sam was run out leaving usn feeling very nervous watching from the side. However, Tejpal came in (injured while bowling, so had a runner) with 3 overs left and 16 needed still. He then smacked two big sixes and a four to win us the game with 7 balls to spare. The skipper was mightily relieved that his highest score of 89 was not in vain, and did lay the foundation for a good win. Keep this going boys.
