Match report A brilliant win for the 3rds today. The skipper won the toss and put them in, although looked a bad move as we took the field with 7 players for the first over. Luckily the 4 players took the field for the second over. We have been giving away far too many extras recently, and that trend continued today. We put ourselves under pressure with some poor discipline with our bowling, giving away 17 wides! They looked like posting around 250 until "young" Jeff "Chairman" Hinds and Pahi came into the attack 3rd change. Jeff took 2-49 off 10 overs and Pahi bowled superb for 4-23 off 9 overs. We bowled them out for 184 in the 43rd over. This was the same total they posted against us in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. In that game we batted poorly and were bowled out for 114, so the skipper wanted a much better response from his batters today. This did not look likely when we were reduced to 82-5, with only a quick-fire 43 from Nufail helping us to this score. 15 year old Sam Poulter came to the crease to join 17 year old James Mugford, and they put together a superb game-changing partnership of 70 to take us to 152-6, with James making his maiden 50. Sam was out for 18, which bought Jeff to the crease. Jeff then supported James as he accelerated us to victory. The scores were level and James finished in style, with a straight 6 back over the bowlers head to complete the win, and end up with a fantastic 84 not out. This win moves us back up to 4th place in a tight league. Two home games remain against the 1st and 3rd placed teams, so we could have a big say in the promotion places. A very proud day for the skipper today!!
