Match report Another great win today for the 3rds. The skipper lost the toss and on a scorching hot day was surprised to be asked to bat. The openers set about the Woodley opening attack, with Nufail racing to 54 before being trapped lbw with the score on 87. Pahi went cheaply which brought in Luke Wilkinson to join Kevin. They both continued to score freely until Kevin was dismissed for 31. Rifas continued the free scoring and also played sensibly when needed. He got to his maiden Purley 50, which he has threatened a few times this season, before he was also trapped lbw for a very good 53. Young James Mugford looked to continue his form from the week before, hitting a couple of nice 4's before being caught on the boundary for 15, going for a big 6! Luke Wilkinson completed his maiden Purley 50, and pushed on to finish with a fine 71 not out off 80 balls. We didn't score many runs off the last few overs, but posted a big score of 264-8. Kadloor got his 5th wicket having Jeff Hinds stumped off the last ball of the 45 overs. A very nice Ibis tea followed (included chips!!) before we took to the field to try and bowl out the team who were one place above us in 3rd. Pahi and Junees opened the bowling and were very good for a 7 over spell each, backed up by 3 outstanding catches. Luke took one in the slips, Rifas took a running catch at gully, and James M took a steepler one handed, all off Pahi. Junees took 2, and we had taken 5 wickets in the first 14 overs. We were then reduced to 10 men as James M took a nasty blow to the nose trying to take a high catch, with the ball going through his fingers straight onto the nose. Luckily it was not broken, although plenty of blood! The Woodley players, parents and Ibis people were superb, and looked after James on the sidelines whilst we continued to try and win the game. Nufail, Jeff and Callum took a wicket each, and Kevin ran out their number 9 with a direct hit at the stumps whilst the batsman was backing up. It was left to Pahi to take the final wicket in the 39th over trapping the number 10 lbw to take an impressive 4-34 off his 9 overs. We had bowled them out for 147 to win by 117 runs and a maximum 35 point haul. This win moved us above Woodley into 3rd place. The final game next week is at home to Warfield, who are above us in 2nd place, so all to play for! It is an exciting league this year, with much to play for on the final week.
