Match report Purley on Thames Sunday XI got back to winning ways after two successive defeats with a good 48 run victory over Lower Earley. Purley won the toss and elected to bat where they got off to a good start with Pete Rackley and James Denton putting on 28 for the first wicket before James was caught. George Wheeler played some attacking shots before he got a leading edge to be caught at mid-wicket for 29 off 22 balls. A moment of madness cost Pete his wicket as he was stumped for 26 when looking safe and that left us 77 for 3. James Measham and Sam Poulter then went onto 103 before Sam was bowled for a patient 14. James was last man out for 64 with the score on 177 for 6 a quick 2 from Raja and we finished on 180 for 6 off 40 overs. Lower Earley set about the target of 181 very positively with 18 off the first two overs but when the Chairman, Jeff Hinds plucked the ball one-handed whilst at square leg in the third over removing the dangerman, Ranawera it was surely only a matter of time.James Measham, the stand-in wicket keeper showed how it was done with two stumpings and two catches as Lower Earley were all out for 132 in the 32nd over to end the slump and hand Purley a 48 run victory. Jeff Hinds was the pick of the bowlers in what could be described as "his day" with figures of 3 for 8 off 3 overs.
