Match report The Saturday 1st XI opened the 2008 season with an emphatic victory over local rivals Theale & Tilehurst at the Goosecroft.

With the prospect of Thames Valley League cricket in a couple of weeks it was important to get off to a good start and hopefully test a view aching limbs. The home teams plans were dealt severe blows with the late news that both Caleb Maycock and Jalil Sear would not be able to play, both being held up at Heathrow and or in traffic.

T&T batting first totalled 182 all out in 48.3 overs thanks mainly to 89 not out from A.Wigmore. An aggressive Lance Harris opening spell was rewarded with innings figures of 4 for 63 off 16 overs as all the Purley bowlers performed well. Farrukh Sultan wrapped up the T&T batting with a Hat-Trick to finish with 4 for 42 from 13.3 overs. Purley 1st team debutant wicket keeper Chris Rackley kept well on his first outing.

Purley openers, Pat Allen (90) and Farrukh Sultan (40)set up a comfortable win with a fine opening stand. Paul Reber maintained the progress with a steady (31 not out) before being joined by skipper Alan Schofield to notch the winning runs.

A good result to start the season.
