Yateley v Purley on Thames CC Saturday 1st XI on Sat 21 Jun 2008 at 1:30pm
Purley on Thames CC Won By 158 runs
Match report
Following Alan Schofield's traditional failure to win the toss, Purley were asked to bat first on a dank difficult afternoon at Yateley. The decision was to prove disastrous for the weakened home team as Purley romped to a 158 run win.
Pat Allen (32) and Lance Ruxton (18) set a healthy base before Ruxton was dismissed in the 7th over with the score on 32. Pat Allen and Chris Miller then put on a stand of 56 to take the score onto 88 before Allen was dismissed in the 18th over. Chris Miller (56) and Alan Schofield (58) - making up for his lack of skill with the coin - added a further 69 to take Purley to a healthy 157 for off 33 overs. Purley moved on to be 213 all out off of 48.5 overs - a reasonable score on a difficult rain affected track.
All enjoyed a slendid tea - many thanks to the Yateley tea ladies - the best in the League.
In reply the Yateley openers (Muir and Muir) started reasonably well reaching 21 in 8 overs before Lance Harris struck to remove the younger Muir caught by Errol Masters. There were doubts over the fitness of both Andy Wheeler and Caleb Maycock, but any doubts over the eventual result were removed in a devasting 3 over spell of 5 wickets for 1 run as Andy Wheeler reduced Yateley to 6 for 37 with some fine pace bowling. Andy finished with the excellent figures of 6 for 21 off of 16 overs.
Purley's fielding, especially from Chris Rackley, 4 wickets behind the stumps, kept Yateley under severe pressure as they subsided to 55 all out as Caleb Maycock mopped up the home side's tail.
