Match report Purley on Thames picked up another vital 20 points as they defeated Odiham and Greywell by 2 wickets in a tense game at the Goosecroft.

Purley skipper Alan Schofield won the toss and elected to bowl fisrt on a slightly damp looking wicket, this proved to be a good decision as the Odiham opners found scoring extremely difficult through some excellent bowling from Andy Wheeler and Lance Harris. Both Harris and Wheeler had catches dropped in the gully (both by the same person, he who shall remain nameless!!!). Odiham lost their first wicket when Caleb Maycock entered the attack, Maycock bowled impressively throughout his spell finishing with figures of 4-40. Odiham reached a respectable score 184-9 off their 52 overs, mainly thanks to an excellent 68 from Paul Voisey.

Purleys reply got off to a terrible start with the top 4 batsmen all falling early, captain Alan Schofield and vice captain Mark Nash then steadied the ship before Nash was removed for 20 the second ball after drinks. Alan Schofield was Purleys main contributor making 69, his fourth TVL fifty of the season. When Schofield fell with the score on 150-8 Purleys chances of winning looked thin but thanks to an extremely composed innings of 32 not out from 16 year old Chris Rackley and a gutsy 13 not out from Andy Wheeler Purley managed to secure victory with just 2 overs remaining.

Purley travel to London this coming Saturday to play the Geese on the river!
