Purley on Thames CC Won by 57 runs.
Match report
The first league game of the season saw us travel to Aldershot in Division 6b, after losing the toss on the first hot day of the year we were surprised to be put in to bat. After a solid and unusually quick start by the Purley openers they put on fifty inside 12 overs, Rackley made 33 before being bowled by Swann, but Purley continued at four an over with Priestley, 32, and Denton ,25 making vital contributions.
Purley started to up the scoring rate and 200 for the loss of only three wickets, Measham passed his 100 with a six and Arshad scored a quick fire 14 to get Purley to a competitive score of 258. Purley took the new ball and got rewards straight away with Arshad bowling their opener, Aldershot continued to play their shots but lost a steady stream of wickets with Seville taking his first two league wickets and Annetts chipping in with two as well. Aldershot skipper Mumby came to the crease and still had thoughts of winning the game and went about the Purley attack scoring quickly, as Purley spread the field to try and stem the flow of runs he raced past fifty git his team to 200.
Purley now with seven wickets as Tom Purser got amongst the act, went attacking after taking a wicket in the 50th and 51st over to leave just one man standing for the final over. With Clough charging in and missing the stumps by a whisker with his first five balls, he took a thin edge for Barclay to take a sharp catch off Clough to dismiss their last man to spark wild celebrations.
A great team effort with everyone making an impact with the bat or the ball to get us off to the perfect start with 25 hard earned points.
