Purley on Thames CC Walking Cricket v Holyport on Fri 28 Mar 2025 at 11am
Purley on Thames CC Won by 35 runs
Match report
The Potterers resumed their friendly rivalry with a net 35 run victory against Holyport in an entertaining and well fought match at Meadway Sports Centre. Good availability for both teams gave the opportunity for a 10 a side match.
The Potterers opening pair (Mark Allen and skipper Barry Hall) got off to a great start with a net score of 51 off the first 4 overs, all the remaining pairs managed positive net scores as they put pressure on the Holyport bowling - however wickets regularly fell as Holyport bowled and fielded very well. Over the 20 overs the Potterers amassed 230 runs for 9 wickets resulting in a final net score of 185, notable net scores of 27 for Mark Allen, 24 for Barry Hall, 20 for Gill Amos, 40 for John Print and 26 for Greg Santoro Fergusson but all batters did well against a good bowling attack to set a challenging target for our visitors.
In reply Holyport also got off to a great start of net 46 off the first 4 overs, but the Potterers kept taking wickets to keep on top of the score. However at the half way stage of the Holyport innings they were on net 92 and looking in a good position to move on and win!
In the final 10 overs the Potterers bowled and fielded well taking 9 wickets to restrict the visitors to 230 runs for 16 wickets and net score of 150 - so a well deserved 35 run win for the Potterers. 3 wicket hauls for Colin Ainger, Richard Drury and Greg Santoro-Fergusson were the pick of the Potterers bowling.
