Junior cricket membership - now open and other important info

12 Apr 2026

Dear parent / guardian of #firstname#

This is a long email, but it contains lots of useful information and news of important developments for junior cricket this year. It also explains some of the different ways you can support the club and help us provide a brilliant cricket experience for all our junior cricketers.

Please do read it!

Membership

We’re pleased to tell you that junior membership is now live for booking on the Purley on Thames Cricket Club website.

If you booked indoor training this year, the process for registering for membership is the same. If you are booking online for the first time, please see the instructions on the Junior Cricket webpage or the Girls’ Cricket webpage for more details.

Briefly:

  1. Login to the website (check you are logged in for the correct child - do not change the details to the other child, or you will erase them from our database)

  2. Complete the form - the form is available is on the Junior Cricket webpage or the Girls’ Cricket webpage

  3. Submit the form

  4. You’ll receive an email confirming your place(s) - subject to safe coaching numbers - and sharing payment details for the membership fee (more on this below). This is not an automated email - we are all volunteers, so please be patient as we will try to do this in batches to be more efficient.

Remember that we have generous discounts for siblings - see the Come and join us webpage for details of all the membership fees

Junior membership covers all the outdoor training sessions. It means that your player is covered by our insurance, and it contributes to the running of the club, our equipment and the upkeep of the grounds.

New for 2026: Club Affiliation, Safeguarding and Good Exchange

Club Affiliation

The ECB is improving the way that it ensures cricket clubs offer safe, inclusive and welcoming environments. Previously, it monitored this through a scheme called ClubMark, of which Purley on Thames CC was an early adopter in Berkshire. The ECB is now moving to a Club Affiliation scheme, which we expect will come into place next year.

As part of the Club Affiliation scheme, cricket clubs must share a new document with all members at registration, which outlines how members of the club agree to follow all ECB regulations and policies, including safeguarding, anti-discrimination, discipline and development. Please take a moment to read the document (linked to in the previous sentence) carefully. As part of the membership form, you will be asked if you have read this and if you agree to this.

Safeguarding course for all members and parents/guardians

As part of our commitment to safeguarding at Purley on Thames CC and in line with our safeguarding policy, we would like to ask all of our members to complete the ECB's Level 1 safeguarding course. This can be completed online at any time, on a laptop, tablet, or phone, and is free.

Everyone at the club is responsible for keeping children, young people, and adults safe and by completing this course we can all gain a better understanding of our responsibilities.

Membership fees and the Good Exchange

Hopefully you have read the email sent recently with details about how membership fees will be done this year. If you missed it, please take a look at the email as it explains things fully.

We are asking each family to please pay £40 from your total junior membership fee to the Good Exchange and then transfer the rest of the membership fee to the club in the usual way. All details will be shared in the confirmation email after you have submitted your membership forms and we have confirmed your place.

Match availability - please action

Matches have started to be added to the website under Fixtures. Please note that matches on 31 August are a holding date.

While you are logged in to complete the membership, please also update your player’s (or players’) availability for matches. You can do this by selecting match availability from the menu under the logged in name - check the top right hand corner of the website. A fuller explanation of how to enter match availability is on the website.

It is equally helpful for coaches to know when players are, and are not, available, so please also let us know of dates when you know you can’t play.

Helping the team

Thank you to everyone who has already indicated that they are able to help with coaching, team management and match day support. We always need helpers, so if you’re able to spare any time to help, please email the Junior Coordinator, Steve Musson.

Team managers will be in touch with those who have offered to help with specific roles, but match days run more smoothly when lots of people help.

Jobs on match days include:

  • removing the ropes from the cricket square

  • organising drinks for players in the refreshment room

  • setting out a boundary

  • getting a table and chairs (and parasol) out for the scorers

  • then putting all these things back/away at the end.

Almost everyone can help with these tasks - this means that the team manager/coach can concentrate on their match-related duties and your children. Please ask someone if you’re unsure how you can help.

Fundraise for free

Finally, please sign up to EasyFundraising to help the club raise vital funds to support more cricket at Purley on Thames. Sign up to EasyFundraising and with one click, you’ll secure free funds for the club when you shop online. Download the browser extensions for reminders when you shop and you won’t miss an opportunity to fundraise - at no cost to you. We’ve already raised over £350 for the club - for FREE!

We’re all looking forward to a great season of cricket and we’ll see you at the Goosecroft very soon!

Best wishes
